Dillian Whyte says he is ready for a fight against Anthony Joshua at their summer date at Wembley Stadium. The 36-year-old Whyte (31-3, 21, KOs) believes a rematch with Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) would be the right thing to do “perfect” fight for him.
The bottom barrel
Joshua, 35, was destroyed in five rounds by IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in his last fight on September 21. AJ needs a win, but this would really be it Scrape off mud at the bottom of the barrel when he chose British journeyman Whyte as his opponent. The British public would probably be happy to buy Joshua vs. Whyte 2 on PPV, but the rest of the world would be disgusted by this abomination.
From Dillian’s perspective, you can understand why he’s so desperate to fight Joshua again. He would be paid millions for the rematch, and the money would make his retirement comfortable.
Whyte is already rich, his net worth is estimated at 7 million dollarsaccording to Celebrity Net Worth. A rematch with Joshua would likely increase that amount to $10 million. Not bad for a career candidate who has never won a world title.
Given the enthusiasm of the promoter Eddie Hearn When it comes to the national fight between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn, he will probably go for the idea of pitting Joshua against Whyte because he thinks the British fans will love that fight. With Turki Al-Sheikh coming on board, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Joshua-Whyte 2 happens next. Joshua-Whyte is the type of fight Hearn would probably go for.
A fight between AJ and Whyte would be laughed at by fans as they see both as completely run down and no longer worth watching. An out-of-shape, overweight-looking, 261-pound Whyte looked indescribably terrible in his last fight against journeyman Ebenezer Tetteh on December 15th. Dillian had a lot of trouble defeating this guy and it was sad to see how faded “The Body Snatcher” has been at this late stage in his career.
Whyte has lost two of his last six fights. He had a controversial win over Jermaine Franklin in 2022, meaning Whyte’s record should be 3-3 in his last six fights. Franklin beat him cleanly, but the judges gave the win to A-side fighter Whyte. The fight took place in London. Franklin is American.
Whyte says he also wants a rematch with Tyson Fury, who knocked him out in the sixth round at Wembley Stadium three years ago on April 23, 2022. There is absolutely no chance of this rematch happening. When rich Fury comes back, he won’t be fighting sleazy fellow Whyte.
Whyte dreams
“(Joshua) Sounds perfect to me. You don’t have to ask me twice. They’re talking about me as an option but haven’t told me anything, so it’s just a negotiating tactic on their part. But I’m ready for the fight,” said Dillian Whyte Sky Sports Boxing about willingness to fight Anthony Joshua in a rematch next.
“If he wants to fight, all they have to do is call me. I’m always ready to fight AJ – no problem for me. Personally, though, I think he’s done,” Dillian said. “I want to fight AJ and Tyson again because they both beat me.”
Alexander Povetkin defeated Whyte in five rounds in 2020. A year later, Dillian avenged his loss by stopping Povetkin in the fourth round in March 2021 fighting under these conditions. Had it been a healthy Povetkin, Dillian probably would have been knocked out again.
10 years ago on December 12, 2015, Joshua stopped Whyte in the eighth round. Whyte was competitive in the first two rounds and then stepped on the gas and struck. After the second round it was no longer an interesting fight as Whyte looked so tired.
